Auschwitz
Auschwitz is located in Poland and was established in 1940 and was used untill liberation in 1945. Auschwitz was divided into 3 sections/camps: Auschwitz I, Aushwitz II Birkenau, which was established in 1941 as extermination camp and Aushwitz III Monowitz, which was established in 1942 as a work camp. Auschwitz was the largest nazi concerntration/death camp and was first used before the war as a detention center for polish prisoners.
Birkenau
Birkenau was the largest killing camp ever and could hold up to 150,000 inmates. Birkenau was roughly only 3km from the main camp (Aushwitz I). The main extermination process was Crematoria & Gas Chambers. The number of people murdered at Auschwitz has been estimated somewhere between 2 million to 4 million.
Monowitz
Monowitz, also known as Aushwitz III was established in 1942 as one of the main subcamps of The Aushwitz complex. This area of the complex was used for forced labour with roughly around 12,000 inmates. Monowitz had 28 sub camps and was known as the black triangle.
